Roxy has led a strange, yet charmed life. She grew up in the Minneapolis suburb of Crystal. Her parents were pretty normal, blue-collar folks with a small house and yard. They were pretty normal, until one day her father, a postal carrier, calmly shot six people in his post office with a hunting rifle. He killed himself when U.S. Marshalls surrounded the post office. Roxy's mother fell into despair and began drinking heavily. Roxy soon ran away from home to avoid physical and sexual abuse from her mother's boyfriend. She lived for about six months on the streets of Minneapolis, sleeping in parks or under freeways, and scrounging food in any way she could. One evening while returning from a day of panhandling to her refuge under the freeway, a man attacked her, attempting to rape her. Fortunately, a T'ai Chi master happened to be walking nearby and came to her rescue. The rapist's body wasn't found for two weeks.
Master Wong took the girl into his home, where he began teaching her T'ai Chi Ch'uan so that she could protect herself in the future. While taking his classes, she met another student, and promptly fell in love. Her new lover, a Wiccan priest, introduced her to the local Pagan community. He also taught her astrology, which she loves. She immersed herself in the Pagan community, drawn by the openness and trust, which she'd never found growing up. She also found she was as sexually attracted to women as she was to men, and entered into several intense lesbian and heterosexual relationships. She loves sex and has read a lot about sexual technique, everything from Alex Comfort to the Kama Sutra and the Perfumed Garden. She even took classes in Tantric sex magic. This period is when she got her first tattoos and body piercings, though she didn't go overboard, like some of her acquaintances and lovers.
Roxy tried to make a living doing astrology charts and making jewelry for pagan gatherings, craft fairs and Renaissance festivals, but she just couldn't make ends meet. With the help of Master Wong, she enrolled in a Video Technician class at Dunwoody Institute, a local technical college. While studying there, she got an internship at WCCO TV, the local CBS affiliate. After finishing her certificate, they offered her a job. She now drives a news van and films on-the-scene reporter for the 6 P.M. news.
She still makes jewerlry and casts horoscopes, but is no longer dependent on it for food and clothing.
